Tea-House treks (Lodge/Homestay etc.) treks in Indian Himalayas:
Most trekking trails in the Himalayas are going above 3000 m/10000 ft. In this altitude there will be hardly any villages or settlements. So the options are limited to a handful of trails where you can get a permanent room/shelter serving meals as well, what we call a Tea-House trek in general.
Rest all major Himalayan treks are camping style treks in India. You will need entire support logistics, tents, provisions moving on the trail along with you.
So in a Tea-House trek you will get either a Lodge/Hotel/Trekkers Hut/Forest Bungalow/PWD or simply a homestay option within a village. The place will also serve meals which are available in the kithcen.
Only a few of these are truly homestay based accommodation. Rest are simple lodges, seasonal settlements or Trekkers Hut available seasonally or round the year basis.
These are basic accommodations and rooms are triple/quad sharing or dormitories. Don’t expect anything fancy but a plain and simple place to sleep for the night with abedding facility. Often you will NOT get an attached toilet inside the room but a common toilet(s) outside.
Some of these accommodations are seasonal, meaning you will not get accommodation or meals or both during off-season.
There are many advantages as well. Logistics is light and much easier unlike a camping trek. Within permitted season(s) these treks are flexible for small groups of 2 to 4/5 persons.
Usually these treks are economical for small groups who wish to go for their private and customised tours.
Here are the options. Do check with us what is available during your plan.
