Many of us didn’t anticipate that most of India would go through a lockdown again like last summer. While the 2nd wave of COVID has stalled India again, air quality did increase again. Probably the only short term benefit of the pandemic! This is also similar to the last year when people were amazed to see Himalayan snow peaks from cities like Sahranpur, Jalandhar or Siliguri during lockdown in April 2020.
Most likely due to the cyclone “Tauktae”, it rained continuously in Delhi and around. Reduced haze along with less pollution again revealed the gigantic Himalayan snow capped ranges from Saharanpur city in north western Uttar Pradesh. As reported by ANI this is how it looked.
This is not an usual incdent which happened last year since a break of 3 decades. The following aeriel view will give an idea of the distance, which is easily more than 150 Km, as the crow flies.

For you who are keen to identify the peaks, these are the peaks in norther ranges around Yamunotri and Gangotri. Enthusiats are quick to spot the Swargarohini group of peaks along with some peaks of Gangotri range in this photo by Dr. Vivek Banerjee.
